As Veterans Day celebration continue across the city, Morris Park held its own local salute Monday.

This ceremony, which has been going on for over 35 years, is very special for the community.

Dozens of veterans, alongside supporters, gathered at the Peace Plaza to honor the brave men and women who gave their all for the country.

The Rudy Macina Peace Memorial remembers a number of fallen heroes, but in particular the man who created the Peace Plaza along Williamsbridge Road. Macina was a Marine who served in World War II. He later returned to the Bronx where he became a community activist. The event included the placement of a wreath by the monument.

Local officials joined veterans who got a chance to speak about their lives after war. They expressed that regardless of where you are for Veterans Day, they hope people take a moment to reflect on what it means to serve. An ultimate sacrifice many of these veterans say they're proud off.
