Train ride to Puerto Rican Day Parade ends in melee
A Metro-North ride to the Puerto Rican Day Parade was cut short Sunday when a brawl led to a man being slashed and rescued from the New Rochelle station.
Police say as many as 40 people may have been involved in the fight that ended with a 21-year-old man being slashed across his arm. Authorities say the fight broke out in the last car on the train headed out of Connecticut to Manhattan.
The victim, whose identity is not being released at this time, was rushed from the New Rochelle station to Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester. Although he suffered a serious injury, he is expected to recover.
Several southbound Metro-North trains were delayed during the probe. Service was restored by early afternoon.
Investigators say although they questioned all of the people involved, they have no leads.
"It's just crazy. It's ridiculous just to know you're on the train and somebody got stabbed and you don't know what happened," stunned commuter Wynter Williams said of the fight.
