Residents at a White Plains apartment complex say they have lived with almost no heat for the last three weeks.

The 13-story complex at 86 Dekalb Ave. has about 170 units.

Some tenants say they are worried how the lack of heat is affecting their health.

“I’m surprised I don’t have pneumonia,” says tenant Gail Ventrella, who has lived in the building for 25 years.

Ventrella says she has to heat pans of water in her oven and had to sleep in the living room because her bedroom is “like an icebox.”

Her neighbor, Keisha Nichols, says the cold got so bad, she spent hundreds trying to get warm.

“Last night, I had to go out and buy radiators because my grandson was shivering,” she says.

Ventrella and other neighbors have visited Nichols just to warm up. But not everyone can afford heaters and rent in the government-subsidized housing.

The building's management told News 12 by phone that they are trying to fix a boiler problem. They didn’t know when exactly it would be fixed.
