Tattoo expo spotlights different styles, from East Coast to West
News 12 reporter Joanna Hernandez is back with another inside look at a tattoo convention, where she spoke with artists about the difference styles between the East and West coasts.
Sneaky Gee, the organizer of this year's Brooklyn Tattoo Expo, says L.A. artists on the West Coast tend to focus more on heavy black and gray style.
"Out here it might be a little big lighter, but you find them everywhere -- you find artists that specialize in stuff everywhere and definitely where you're from will show in your work," Sneaky Gee says.
He has been hosting tattoo conventions for the past five years traveling around the country, and he says his goal is to bring East and West Coast artists together, creating a space to learn from each other.
Peeko, a New York City artist and owner of Pyramid Ink in Harlem, says he specializes in freestyle art. "I like when a person gives me more of what they want and I make it a thing."
He says every artist should attend a tattoo expo because it's a good way to learn different forms of tattooing from artists around the country attend.
Sneaky Gee says its not a competition between the East and the West coast but does emphasize where you're from shows in your work.
