Summer scorcher hits Hudson Valley
Temperatures approached record levels Monday as the heat soared into the 90s for the third straight day.
The record for Aug. 17 is 92 degrees, which was set in 1970.
To beat the heat, Mount Vernon residents flocked to Wilson's Woods Park, where children splashed around in the wave pools or ran through sprinklers.
Meanwhile, firefighters responding to an afternoon blaze in Hillcrest say temperatures felt as high as 115 degrees in their full fire gear.
Workers outside are particularly at risk amid the heat wave, officials say.
Officials at Nyack Hospital say they've seen an uptick in patients due to heat-related issues.
Health experts urge residents to keep cool and stay hydrated.
News 12 meteorologists expect Tuesday to have highs in the upper 80s. A mid-week storm should cool things off, and a comfortable, warm weekend should be on the horizon.
Orange and Rockland Utilities is urging customers to conserve energy, including turning down or turning off air conditioning in empty homes while customers are away or at work. When using a room air conditioner, customers should close doors to keep the cool air in and the hot air out.
