Students joined Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday at the Evander Childs Campus as he pitched legislation to tackle gun violence.

Cuomo arrived at the school on Monday morning, and was welcomed by students with ‘March for Our Lives’ shirts and signs.

"Red Flag Gun Protection Bill,” also known as the “Extreme Risk Protection Order Bill,” is the governor’s newly proposed legislation.

If passed, it would allow parents who believe their child is mentally ill, disturbed or violent to have a judge permit a mental health evaluation.

If they find the child is mentally ill, guns can be removed from their possession and they can be prevented from purchasing more.

The legislation would also grant teachers the ability to ask a judge to evaluate a student in which they notice a change in behavior.

The legislation builds on “The Safe Act,” gun safety legislation passed in 2013.
