A multifamily home in Mount Vernon went up in flames Saturday, causing three fire departments to rush to the scene.
The fire broke out around 2 p.m. on Archer Avenue. Fire officials from Mount Vernon, Pelham and Eastchester were called.
News 12 is told nine people live in the home, including two children.
Families live on the first and second floors of the building. There are tenants in two smaller apartments in the basement, where the fire started.
The person who called 911 said he saw smoke coming up from the floor below.
The people who live in the upper levels say they are hopeful their belongings only suffered some smoke and water damage.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire, although they say it appears to be accidental.
