Yonkers Mayor Spano calls for citywide ban on flavored e-cigarettes

Posted: Updated:

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano is calling for a citywide ban on the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes.

Mayor Spano says he and the city council are looking to make Yonkers the first municipality in the state to do so.

According to the CDC, e-cigarettes have been linked to hundreds of cases of severe pulmonary disease in more than two dozen states.

The mayor says the ban is necessary because he believes the makers of flavored e-cigarettes unfairly target young people.

City officials say they plan to act quickly to install the ban.

Vape shop owners tell News 12 that the proposed ban is too drastic. If the ban is put into place, they say they'll have no choice but to take the city to court.
