Greenburgh citizens worried about effects of supermarket in their neighborhoodPosted: Updated:
Elmsford residents are concerned about plans to bring a supermarket into the community.
The grocery store slated to be built on Saw Mill River Road used to be the location for the Greenburgh Multiplex Cinemas. The movie theater closed in May despite disappointment from neighbors.
"They've been there for a while and a lot of people went there," said Brandon Johns of White Plains.
People in the community have mixed feelings about the theater's possible replacement.
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says that homeowners don't want to have noise and traffic right outside their door.
"A lot of people are concerned because they feel that would have a negative quality of life impact," Feiner says.
Some residents say it will be convenient and a "good add-on" to the area.
Feiner says he has proposed that Greenburgh officials schedule a site visit with the applicant and respective legal teams in the coming weeks to find a solution that would work for all parties involved.
