SPCA: Woman on probation for cruelty had a dozen animals living in filth

An Amityville woman had 10 dogs and two cats living in deplorable conditions inside her home on the 100 block of Sterling Place, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.
Capt. Paul Llobell says officers found the animals during a routine probation check on 32-year-old Shannon King, who was previously charged with animal cruelty two years ago. She now faces the same charge.
Llobell says the animals were dehydrated and some of them were confined in cages filled with feces.
Investigators say one dog was emaciated and that all the animals needed medical care and grooming. They say the smell was overwhelming and none of the animals had water.
One neighbor says it appeared that King wasn't taking care of the animals, despite indicating she liked training dogs.
The dogs and cats were taken to the Babylon Animal Shelter.
King appeared in Amityville Village Justice Court Tuesday, pleaded not guilty and is due back in June. She is not allowed to have any animals in her home while the case works it way through the courts.
