Millions of people are expected to travel this weekend ahead of the Christmas holiday.
AAA says that over 112 million Americans will travel during the yearend holiday period from Dec. 22 through Jan. 1
The agency says that road travel will increase by 4.4 percent during the period. Motorists are advised driving on the actual holiday if possible to avoid heady traffic. AAA says that anyone who needs to leave beforehand should get an early start.
But there is some good news for motorists. AAA says that the December national gas price average was at its cheapest in two years.
Americans who are traveling by air should be sure to give themselves plenty of time at area airport. Millions will be flying at the nation’s airports and lines through security are expected to be long. The Transportation Security Administration always advises travelers to arrive at the airport two hours before their flights in order to give themselves enough time.
For the railroad – New Jersey Transit says the agency is offering extra service during the holiday season. Customers will have more options and more flexibility for attending special events, family gatherings and New Year’s Eve festivities.
NJ Transit also says that the Family Super Saver Fare has been extended. This allows up to two children, 11-years-old or younger, to travel free with each fare-paying customer.
NJ Transit trains will operate on a weekday schedule with additional "early getaway" service.
