A Lake Nanuet lifeguard has advice for Hudson Valley residents seeking to beat the heat.

"Wear a lot of sunscreen," says Shannon Kopumek. "Drink plenty of water."

On the other hand, many residents who aren't cooling off at beaches or in pools may be staying indoors with air conditioning as temperatures climb above 90. And temperatures could feel as high as 105 in some places, News 12 meteorologists say.

There are also cooling centers open across the region.
