Yonkers gears up to beat excessive heat

YONKERS -

With temperatures soaring into the upper-90s, people in the Hudson Valley are doing all they can to keep cool.

Yonkers residents loaded up on sunscreen and water before hitting the beach or hanging by the pool Sunday.

But others opted to play it safe and stay indoors with their air conditioners.

Emergency crews are expecting many calls for dehydration and heat stroke today, and are prepared to help those in need.

The very young and old are most at risk of heat-related illnesses, as well as those with high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
