Frustration grows as residents lambast Con Ed’s response to storms
Neighborhoods across the region are still in the dark a week after getting hit the first of two nor'easters.
It was so cold in Dennis Kelley's North White Plains house that he had to move in with relatives in Poughkeepsie. He says he is frustrated with Con Edison after eight days without power.
“It’s a travesty the way they're treating people,” said Kelley.
Kelley and his neighbors who live on Overlook Road North are just some of the thousands of homeowners throughout the Westchester County waiting for electricity. They told News 12 they spotted Con Edison workers in the neighborhood, but they appear to be there just to baby sit the downed power lines. When they call the utility, they say they get the runaround.
"We were told Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and now Friday, and still no hope that we are going to get power restored," said neighbor Steve Rosci. "We seem to be forgotten because we are a small section and nobody cares."
Con Edison CEO John McAvoy blamed the slow restoration process on the two devastating back-to-back nor'easters unlike the company's seen before.
“The result is, we're not just repairing our system – in many cases we're rebuilding it,” he said.
Con Edison says it's hoping to have power restored throughout Westchester by the end of the weekend.
