Yonkers DPW crews out on the roads as snow accumulates

YONKERS -

Wet, thick and heavy snow fell in Yonkers Wednesday evening.

Getty Square in Downtown Yonkers was fairly deserted as residents heeded warnings to stay off the roads.

Much of the blacktop was covered in snow, but buses were still running.

Yonkers DPW workers were out clearing the roads and told News 12 there were enough plows out and that they were on top of the accumulation.

Alternate side street parking was suspended Wednesday and will be suspended on Thursday.

Officials urged residents to keep their vehicles off the streets so plow trucks could get through.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano says he is hoping for the best, but is prepared for the worst.
