Demonstrators demand gun reform action after FL shooting

CARMEL -

Demonstrators gathered at the Carmel courthouse Monday to demand that lawmakers take action on gun reform following the Florida school shooting that killed 17 people last week.

Several social justice groups from northern Westchester and Putnam counties gathered at the candlelight vigil to rally residents who are concerned about gun violence and another mass shooting.

Among the list of speakers was Marcia Stone, a retired teacher from Yorktown, who said she is shocked and angered that innocent students and teachers lost their lives last week in Florida.

"We need to change legislation. We need to cut access to military-style weapons. We need to vote people out of office who will not change legislation. We need to change mental health laws,” said Stone.

Organizers say they believe mass shootings will continue happening unless residents speak up and demand stricter gun laws.
