Police seek suspects who attempted to burn down Bridgeport business twice
Bridgeport police are asking for the public's help after somebody tried to burn down a local business on two separate occasions this week.
The incidents occurred at Sunshine Kitchen and Deli, located on Park Avenue.
Surveillance video shows a man walking into the store Friday afternoon and lighting a shelf on fire that he had doused with gasoline.
Three days earlier, a man was seen on surveillance video approaching the store with a container of gasoline, then igniting the building itself, followed by a frantic getaway.
Police Chief AJ Perez says the videos give investigators a clear picture of the suspects. He says while in neither case did the fires spread, somebody could have ended up dead.
"One of the worst things you can do to a human being is burn them alive and that's what could happen here easily," says Perez.
Store owner Abdul Zamri says he has no idea who would do something like this. He says he has no problems with anyone in the neighborhood.
Community activists Charlie Coviello and Tony Barr showed their support for the store by vowing to help police track down the suspects.
Authorities are urging anyone who recognizes the suspects to call Bridgeport police at 203-576-TIPS.
