Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams announced Tuesday that millions of dollars will go toward building and preserving homes.

Adams says Brooklyn seniors who feel like they are being pushed out will benefit from his $8.7 million investment in affordable housing. The money will come from the borough president's capital budget and will benefit neighborhoods such as East New York, Brownsville and East Flatbush.

The funds will be divided between construction of new affordable apartments, including senior housing, and preserving rent-stabilized apartments. The borough president says those renters should see improvements in about a year since permits have to be approved.

Funding will also go to the New York City Housing Authority for renovations and repairs, and those tenants could see improvements in a matter of months.

One church says it will use its portion of the capital funds to build a new, 90-unit affordable housing development for seniors on New York Avenue in East Flatbush.
