Westchester parades kick off Thanksgiving celebrations

NEW ROCHELLE -

Thousands of people lined the streets of New Rochelle and Yonkers for those cities’ annual Thanksgiving parades this weekend.

Marching bands and dancers were just some of the attractions on North Avenue in New Rochelle. For the second year in a row, a Mighty Mouse float headlined the parade.  The parade is the second largest Thanksgiving Day parade in New York.

Westchester's largest city is getting into the holiday spirit a little early this year! In Yonkers, revelers turned out on a wet night at the Cross County Shopping Center for their annual holiday parade. The event featured walking Christmas trees, marching bands, and nutcrackers on floats.

‘American Idol’ winner David cook was there to meet fans and perform. "To start off the holiday season fun for them and do the parade and performance and all that stuff is really exciting," says Cook.

A tree lighting and a fireworks display also helped get the season underway.
