Politicians in and around Westchester sent their thoughts and prayers Tuesday to the victims of the truck attack in New York City.
Rep. Nita Lowey said that seeing something like the attack happen in a city like New York is heartbreaking.
"Frankly, anybody -- whether in that area or in another part of New York City, in Westchester or any place -- has to be concerned. There is evil, and an act of terror like this can happen anywhere," she said.
Lowey also said she trusts police will do everything they can to keep New Yorkers safe.
Several officials also expressed their thoughts on social media. Sen. Terrence Murphy tweeted, "A terrible day for New York and America. We must always remain vigilant but never let the hate of others deter us..."
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said, "Police redoubling anti-terrorist systems. Prayers for those killed and injured in NYC. God bless the NYPD."
Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney also wrote, "This is horrifying. Praying for all the victims and their families."
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said, "As NYC has shown over and over, we are resilient. We will not cower to senseless hate. I am confident we will get answers."
