County lawmakers joined together Friday to help out the oldest working farm in Westchester.

Legislators announced a bipartisan plan to give $400,000 to Stuart's Farm, which is located on 172 acres in Somers and dates back to 1828. The money will guarantee that the land can only be used for farming-related activities in the future.

The owners of the farm say they are looking forward to preserving the farm for future generations.

"We are going to keep it as a family farm forever," said Betsy Stuart of Somers.

Lawmakers say the funding is part of a $3 million effort to conserve land in Westchester. If the plan is passed by the county board, the money would come from county bonds.
