Overnight fire destroys Continental Village home

CONTINENTAL VILLAGE -

An overnight fire destroyed a Putnam County home.

Fire officials called the home on Sky Lane in Continental Village a total loss, even though as many as four fire departments responded to the scene just after 1 a.m. to battle the blaze.

There are no fire hydrants on the road, and neighbors were told that water had to brought in with tankers.

Residents say the man who lived there is a New York City police officer and has rented the home for years.

They say the man was away on vacation when the fire started, and his dog was with his mother for the weekend and was not harmed.
