People across the Hudson Valley are taking the time this Memorial Day to remember those who gave their all to protect our freedom.
Many communities are holding events and honoring their veterans.
About 50 marines and sailors who are here for Fleet Week were bused in by police escort for an appreciation breakfast at the American Legion.  A staff sergeant told News 12 what gestures like this mean for the Marines. "It's just a chance for them to see something different. They work hard every day for this country and then when they get out here and they see their fellow New Yorkers and people in this area give back to them, it kind of just motivates them to work hard," says U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ashley Harrod.
The United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association of New Rochelle also honored not only the fallen heroes, but those who protect the country right now at a ceremony at the Memorial Day Plaza. "Everyone has been so welcoming and we're really just completely blown away by the kindness of the police and just everyone who's helped us out here," says Navy Pilot Captain Andrew Lloyd.
At noon, a waterfront ceremony will be held at Glen Island Park and which will be followed by appreciation events like a concert, barbeque and helicopter landing. Events are expected to last until dusk.
Rain is in the forecast for most the region, so officials are urging people to check municipality websites for any cancellations or delays.
