As construction continues on the new Tappan Zee Bridge, politicians are considering giving the bridge a new name once it’s complete.
State Sen. William Larkin has sponsored a bill proposing the new bridge be named the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge.
He says the name would honor those who fought for the country, were wounded in the line of duty or, in some cases, sacrificed their lives.
According to Larkin, there are roughly 1.8 million Purple Heart recipients across the U.S.
The legislation has already been approved by the Senate and will now go before the Assembly.
