Four-car accident on Sprain Brook kills one, injures three

Police say one person died in a four-car accident on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Valhalla Wednesday. Police say 40-year-old Brian Souza, of Ossining, was driving northbound when his car lost control and went over a guardrail. Police say it then crashed airborne into one car, causing a chain reaction of crashes in the southbound lanes. Fifty-six-year-old Hector Joseph Thorpe, of Mount Vernon, was killed when his car was hit head-on and virtually destroyed.Two other cars involved in the chain reaction crashes ended up in the woods. Three victims were treated at Westchester Medical Center for unknown injuries. All southbound lanes were shut down for responding emergency crews during the evening rush hour.
