Fire damages 2 Pelham businesses

(AP) - Fire has destroyed a deli/variety store and heavily damaged a dry cleaners in Pelham. The cause of the fire on Lincoln Avenue is electrical.

Pelham Fire Chief Richard Carfora says the fire began last night in an office in the rear of F-and-Y Food Corporation and spread to the ceiling and into the Grand Cleaners.

One firefighter suffered a minor back injury.

Carfora says the owner of the food store was inside when the fire started while the cleaning business was closed.

Neighborhood residents say the food store's late hours made it a popular business.

Firefighters from Pelham, Pelham Manor, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon and Eastchester responded to the blaze, which was under control in about 20 minutes.
