8 killed in Taconic State Parkway collision

New York State Police say eight people have died in a three-car crash on the Taconic State Parkway in Hawthorne.

The crash occurred at about 2 p.m. Sunday near Route 117.

State police say a gray minivan was heading the wrong way on the northbound lanes when it collided head-on into an SUV. A third vehicle also was involved.

Police say the four girls, all under the age of 10, riding in the minivan were killed, as well as the driver. One child, the driver's 5-year-old son, survived and was hospitalized.

Three men from Yonkers riding in the SUV were also killed.

AP wire services were used in this report.
