Bedford top cop to retire

Bedford Police Chief Chris Menzel has announced this week he will retire in October after five years on the job.

Yorktown Police Chief Daniel McMahon says he will miss his friend, but adds that the 44-year-old Menzel is not likely to stay retired for long.

"I personally believe he has law enforcement in his blood and will do something along those lines," McMahon says.

Menzel says he will move to Florida after retiring Oct. 1. Lt. Ed Collins has been named interim police chief. Bedford Town Supervisor Lee Roberts says she expects to find a replacement for Menzel within the department.
