Fallen Marine from Yonkers laid to rest

Family and friends said their final farewells to a U.S. Marine from Yonkers who was killed in Afghanistan last month.

Marines carried the casket of their fallen comrade, 24-year-old Lance Corp. John Malone, out of Harvest Fields Community Church on East Tremont Avenue in the Bronx.

Malone, a Gorton High School graduate, enlisted in the Marines in 2007. On Sept. 24, he was fatally shot while on patrol outside the Farah Province.

Relatives say the Yonkers native was looking forward to returning home in November.

Malone was buried with full military honors at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley next to his grandfather.
