A Yonkers man was injured after police say a homemade bomb went off in the woods of Kent.
Police stopped on Ludingtonville Road to help with a disabled car. After speaking with a man in the car, police heard a loud explosion in the nearby woods. They say 45-year old Michael O'Connor made a bomb and drove to Putnam where his car became disabled. They believe he walked into the woods and the bomb detonated. O'Connor suffered minor injuries in the blast and was arrested.
The Westchester County Bomb Squad and agents of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms then searched O'Connor's apartment in Yonkers. The search turned up two pounds of smokeless powder. Police do not believe O?Connor has any terrorist connections. Kent police charged O'Connor with first-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Federal charges are pending.
