Saw Mill Pkwy. crash leaves 2 injured
Two drivers were sent to the hospital Friday evening following a crash on the Saw Mill River Parkway.
It happened at around 6:30 p.m. along the parkway at Hearst Street in Yonkers.
Police say that the driver of a Honda Element was heading northbound but went to take a turn at Hearst Street, and was hit by a driver heading southbound.
The Honda got pulled back over the guardrail on the southbound side of the Saw Mill, knocking out a light pole. Police say hitting the pole and guardrail may have stopped the car from going even further. They say a few feet more, and it would have ended up in the river.
Both drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries, but the accident left behind a big mess of glass and car parts. The crash tied up the evening commute for hours as police and emergency crews removed the wreckage and downed pole.
The southbound lanes of the parkway were closed, forcing drivers to re-route onto Hearst and down to Executive Boulevard. That part of the Saw Mill has since reopened.
