Officer seriously injured in auto accident

An off-duty Elmsford police officer is recuperating from multiple injuries after being struck by a taxi Sunday night in Hawthorne.

Authorities say the officer was hit while walking across Bradhurst Avenue near Chateau Lane at around 8:30 p.m.

Kenneth Gumbs, 45, was rushed to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he is said to be in stable condition

Police are still investigating, but right now it doesn't appear that the driver of the taxi will be charged.
