Family displaced after Mount Vernon house fire

A family is displaced after a fire destroyed their Mount Vernon home.



Firefighters were called to 72 Brookside Ave. around 10 a.m. today.



Fire officials report seeing flames bursting out of the back of the two-story wood frame home when they arrived.



The fire chief claims the owner of the home was working on a pipe, but escaped the blaze unharmed.



No one else was injured in the fire.



The Red Cross is assisting the family that was displaced.
