Two Mount Vernon business owners are suing the city and Mayor Richard Thomas, claiming they were shut down for no reason.
Restaurant OK Freddy's on South Fourth Avenue and the Mega Beverage Redemption on East Third were both shut down last week. The owners insist they were shut down for minor violations, including lack of carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers.
The mayor was not available to go on camera, but he released a statement to News 12 saying he shut the businesses down because they were a clear and present danger to the people.
A judge told the business owners in essence that if they fix the problems, they can reopen again. Both businesses still remain closed, but the owners have filed more lawsuits against the city and the mayor personally.
It is not clear when the city will allow the businesses to reopen.
