A Peekskill man was fatally shot Sunday night.

Police officers on patrol heard several gunshots coming from the area of the 1400 block of Park Street around 10:20 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, they found a man who was unresponsive.

The victim, 22-year-old Steven Agosto, was brought to New York Presbyterian Hospital where he died.

His mother Maria Agosto believes her son was set up to be murdered. She says her son received a phone call about 10 p.m. Sunday. "Somebody called and told him, 'come here.' I don't know exactly who called because he was screaming, you know fighting with somebody on the phone." Agosto says her son may have been having trouble with his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend.

Police say they are investigating the shooting as a homicide. They say they have several leads, but no arrests have been made yet.

Friends say Agosto, originally from Yonkers, was expecting his first child next month.
