Sen. Charles Schumer is calling on the federal government to make streets in the Hudson Valley safer.
A dozen areas in the Lower Hudson Valley were cited in a recent Department of Transportation report as being "highly dangerous."
The DOT report also shows 133 sections of roadway in the Lower Hudson Valley have some of the highest crash rates in the state.
One of the areas cited in the report is on the Hutchinson River Parkway near the Mamaroneck Avenue underpass. Last summer, a Westchester County police officer was struck by a car in that area.
An area of the Cross County, just east of the Saw Mill River Parkway, is also cited as another trouble spot with 88 accidents and 31 injuries.
