Police: Man drowns in Pound Ridge lake

Police have identified the man who drowned Thursday after falling out of his boat into 12 feet of water in a private Pound Ridge lake.

Officials say White Plains resident Alejandro Limon-Garcia, 31, fell from a canoe while installing an irrigation pump at 129 South Bedford Road. The home sits on Blue Heron Lake.

The victim was not wearing a life vest, nor was he wearing any equipment that would have weighed him down, police say.

A coworker who witnessed the drowning from the shore says that after Limon-Garcia fell into the water, he unsuccessfully attempted to retrieve the canoe, which drifted further into the lake. Officials say the victim began to struggle and went underwater.

According to police, the victim's coworker did not believe Limon-Garcia could swim and called 911. But the rescue attempt quickly morphed into a recovery mission.

The Stamford Fire Department's dive team pulled the body from the lake about an hour later.
