Officials roll out app aimed at suicide prevention

Orange County officials have rolled out a smartphone app aimed at reducing the number of suicides in the area.

According to the CDC, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S.

Among those deaths are current and former members of the military. Suicide is also the No. 2 cause of death for those between the ages of 15 and 24.

County Executive Steve Neuhaus says he began pushing for the Friends Help Friends app after his niece told him she had a friend she was concerned about, but did not know where to turn.

The app is free of charge, and can be found on the app stores for both the iPhone and Android devices. It can also be found through Orange County's website.
