Police: Man hospitalized after Mount Vernon shooting

Police say a man is in the hospital after a gunman fired repeatedly at him in Mount Vernon.

The incident occurred at Third Street and Bogopa Plaza at around 3:30 p.m.

Witnesses say there were three young men standing in front of the Top Deli Market, when one them pulled out a gun and opened fire. The victim escaped into the convenience store and the gunman followed him inside, shooting him again before running away.

The shooting victim was rushed to the hospital. City officials say he is in critical condition.

Police say they are searching for the shooter.
