Croton mourns 6-year-old found dead in home

The village of Croton-on-Hudson is mourning the death of 6-year-old Lacey Carr.

Police say David Carr found his daughter unconscious and unresponsive at her mother's home at 144 Hastings Ave. on Sunday afternoon. The child's mother, Kathleen Dymes, 51, was also found unconscious. The father and mother do not live together.

Today, kids are back at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School for the first time since their classmate died.

Parents tell News 12 they didn't know how to address Lacey's death with their children. They remarked that you can't tell your kids that she got sick because then your kids will think they'll die when they get sick.

Assistant Superintendent of the Croton-Harmon School District Deborah O'Connell says there are resources at the school and on their website to help guide parents with how to address the tragedy with their kids. "The district is devastated by the loss of our student. Our condolences we send out to Lacey's family and friends at this current moment; our counseling teams are in place to provide support for our students, staff and families," says O'Connell.
