Westchester woman honored for breaking barriers
A Westchester woman was honored today for some outstanding achievements in her lifetime. Dr. Olivia Hooker, 96, was inducted into the Westchester Senior Hall of Fame in White Plains today. Hooker was the first African-American woman to be admitted into the U.S. Coast Guard. Also, when she was 6 years old, she survived the Tulsa Race Riots of 1921. The former Yonkers school psychologist isn't showing any signs of slowing down. She says she likes attending concerts at Carnegie Hall and taking part in senior programs at a Greenburgh community center.
