Spring Valley trustee files police report after mayor's alleged tirade
Spring Valley Trustee Sherry McGill was still in shock Friday, two days after she says Spring Valley Mayor Alan Simon lashed out with a profanity-laced tirade at Village Hall.
She told News 12 that the mayor cursed at her during a meeting between the mayor and Trish Harvey, the village's new after-school program director. She says the mayor grabbed papers out of Harvey's hand and threw them on a table.
McGill says she doesn't know why Simon allegedly cursed at Harvey before turning his anger on her.
Hours later, McGill says the mayor gave her an apology that she wasn't pleased with.
"When he apologized, he made his excuses for his behavior," says McGill.
McGill has filed a police report against Simon for his alleged outburst. It's not his first brush with the law for his reported rage.
Just last month, police were called to a bank in Suffern after the former Ramapo judge reportedly yelled at tellers there. In 2016, Simon got booted from the bench by New York's top court for allegedly bullying and harassing staff, other judges and village officials.
"It must stop. How many times are you going to apologize?" asked McGill.
Spring Valley Deputy Mayor Bernard Charles said that the mayor's behavior was "not acceptable."
News 12 reached out to Mayor Simon, but he said he couldn't comment, saying that it would be inappropriate to discuss personal matters.
