Some senior citizens in Port Chester say they are battling frigid temperatures inside their apartments.

Residents who live inside the Kingsport Housing for the Elderly on King Street say the inside temperature is the equivalent of a chilly spring day.

Sixty-eight degrees is the indoor temperature required by law for all apartment buildings whenever the outdoor temperature drops below 55 degrees, but resident Jane McCarty says the only place that gets to 68 there is the community room.

"Everyone else is freezing on their floors, both in their apartments and in the hallways," she says.

Resident Denise Stigialnese say they've complained many times to the building's super.

The super at Kingsport Housing would not speak with News 12 on camera, but did say that he was trying cover vents and raise heat throughout the building.

News 12 reached out to the  management company of the building. It said it was not aware of any problem, and plans to check on the building first thing in the morning.
