GOP senators have released a new report detailing five legislative recommendations to address antisemitism.
The proposal includes misdemeanor charges for tearing down pro-Israel flyers and defining antisemitism within the state’s human rights law.
The proposal would also create the Dismantling Student Antisemitism Act, which aims to implement awareness and prevention in colleges. Students who engage in antisemitic behavior would not be able to receive tuition assistance.
"It starts with one principal, we revert to where we were at our inception and who we have been historically, leaders in the civil rights movement,” said Jack Martins, chair of the Antisemitism Working Group. “We stand up for our communities. We stand up for Jews here in New York and there is no place in New York where we will allow hate."
The proposed law would also expand the prohibition of “harassing conduct” involving Nazi symbols.
