The Orlando nightclub massacre has renewed a conversation about gun control in the U.S., but a local security expert says banning just certain types of guns is not the answer.
Rockland-based security expert Pat Brosnan was on the ground in Florida, and saw how the Orlando nightclub massacre rattled the city and the clients he works with there.
He says the tragedy, which was the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history, should be a wake-up call.
"There's no way to put a protective shield around every venue," he says. "It's impossible."
Brosnan believes that as a nation, people must take drastic measures to prevent another radicalized shooter from getting their hands on a gun.
He also says that the current push in Congress to ban some guns and enact gun control legislation won't work.
"If another gun wasn't manufactured starting June 16, it would not impact the amount of shootings and murders in the country today," he says.
Brosnan believes politicians should be focused on concrete measures that could stop a potential terrorist in their tracks.
