Parents of children with autism now have another option for getting their kids the specialized education they deserve.

The Westchester School for Special Children is now welcoming kids with autism spectrum disorder.

School officials say they have traditionally served students that are classified as orthopedically impaired and intellectually disabled, so this is a logical extension of their program. "They no longer have to be bussed out of the city of Yonkers to find a great education program," says Jay Tabasco, of the Westchester School for Special Children.

Tabasco says that the school's program is tailored for each student because not everything is going to work for every child with ASD. He says it can give the students an opportunity to succeed outside the mainstream district.
