School: Background check was clear on ex-teacher in child porn case
A former school violin teacher surrendered to federal authorities on Friday after an internet sting led to the discovery of hundreds of child pornography images on his laptop.
Nicholas Szucs allegedly tried to destroy the images on his computer, which were said to include sexual acts on boys and girls as young as 8. Szucs was a teacher at the Rippowam Cisqua school in Bedford, Marist College and the Harvey School in Katonah. The public school district also allegedly included him on a list of trusted private tutors for families to hire.
Last year, Szucs was slapped with child pornography charges by the Westchester District Attorney's Office. The federal government took the case over last week and upgraded the charges against him.
School officials did not want to comment on the allegations, but one mother emailed News 12 a letter from the head of the school saying, "We have no reason to believe any of our students were exposed to any of these materials."
The letter also said that a full background check was done on Scuzs and it came back clear.
Officials say the music teacher was watching and sharing pornography for at least three out of the nine years he was employed there.
Szucs has been charged with transporting and receiving child pornography, and possessing child pornography. If convicted, he could face prison time and fines.
