The 50 people who died in the Orlando nightclub shooting were remembered Sunday at Rockland Pride Day.
The event, held in Nyack, was a day meant to celebrate the civil rights reforms achieved by the LGBT community.
Organizer Phyllis Frank kicked off the annual festivities which were overshadowed by the massacre at Pulse Nightclub.
"I felt sickened, I felt frightened and I felt angry," she said.
The Rockland Sheriff's Office deployed bomb-sniffing dogs and additional patrols at the event, along with New York State and Orangetown police officers.
"We want everybody to feel included, protected, safe and happy in our community and I think a lot has been done to accomplish that," said Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart.
