A Hendrick Hudson High School junior and star athlete is recovering after authorities say he was shot with a BB gun.

Joey Rizzi, 17, is resting at his Montrose home, says his father, Joe Rizzi, a Peekskill police officer who says his family is hoping for the best.

Buchanan police confirm the incident happened Friday and say they are investigating it. However, they only learned of the incident on Tuesday morning, when Joey Rizzi's mother showed up at police headquarters to report it.

Police officials declined to give further details about the ongoing investigation.
