Police say there was a fatal work-related accident involving an 18-wheeler asphalt truck in Freeport Tuesday morning.
Nassau homicide detectives say 39-year-old Charles Grange Jr., of Massapequa, was working with a road paving crew near Guy Lombardo Avenue and Grant Street when he was accidentally hit by the crew’s asphalt truck.
Officials say Grange was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors say crews had been working in the area for a couple of weeks and they had not seen any previous issues.
This is not the first deadly construction accident in Freeport. In July, News 12 reported that a 17-year-old construction worker died after falling at least 30 feet from makeshift scaffolding at a home on South Bayview Avenue.
Another worker, who also fell when that scaffolding broke, hurt his shoulder. Freeport officials told News 12 the construction company did not have permits to put up that makeshift scaffolding.
Earlier this month, a home under construction on Sportsman Avenue collapsed. This tore a hole in the side of the house next door and crushed the metal fence around the construction site. Freeport officials say that collapse was due to whipping winds.
Tuesday morning’s accident is under investigation.
A memorial with candles was placed at the intersection of Guy Lombardo Avenue and Grant Street in honor of Grange.
